The Italian Aperitivo lands in Edinburgh!

Aperitivo is not just having a drink before dinner.

Actually the real Italian aperitivo includes a generous buffet table and a good amount of chatting with friends and new people.

Aperitivo is having a drink and food before having more food and maybe a glass of wine- ah, the Italians! – but in a casual way, sometimes just after work before we go home for dinner, to catch up with friends and meet new ones.

For us – coming from Lombardy, region of Italy, where aperitivo is a big thing, to end (or start, or break) the week in a relaxed hence buzzy athmosphere, with a choice of food and a good drink – this is great news!

We miss aperitivo and are excited that Ristorante Isola (check out their Facebook page) is bringing Italian Aperitivo in Scotland.

Ristorante Isola–   85-87 Newington Road, EH91QW Edinburgh

We have already been delighted by the sublime dishes served in this Edinburgh little gem, with Sardinian specialities (unique in Edinburgh) using the freshest ingredients, everything prepared fresh. We would recommend this place every day and for any occasion.

If you haven’t been yet then don’t miss this wonderful deal and have a taste and feel of Ristorante Isola tomorrow night – Sunday 1st of May 2016 –  at 6.30 pm

See you there

Celebrating International Coffee Day with the story of its origins

Happy International Coffee Day!

To celebrate this great day we thought we would share a story with you. Of course it involves our beloved coffee roaster!

Caffé del Doge is unique in the world, and we owe this to their inherited secrets of Venetian Roasting tradition, the oldest and most refined coffee roasting method in Italy .

Italian coffee is renowned to be heavily roasted, but funny enough, when everything started in Venice back in the 1700 (The Doge was the lord of Venice at the times of Maritime Republics, and Venice was the first city to import and enjoy coffee beans from the East), Venetian coffee was not a dark roast. Caffé del Doge still roasts its beans using the same method and the secrets that have been developed to produce such aromatic blends without any bitter tones.

Caffé del Doge stands to Coffee as Scotland stands to Scotch Whiskey. Why getting anything else?

In this extract taken by Caffé del Doge’s own promotional material there’s an interesting description of the Venetian Coffee story:

“In a speech given to the Senate of the Venetian Republic in 1585, G.F. Morosini stated the following: ‘…they amuse themselves by sitting both inside and out on the street, people from all classes, drinking a black liquid, scorching hot, derived from a seed called kavèe, which they say has the power to keep a man awake.’ From then on coffee quickly became a popular and diffused beverage, and finally in 1683 the first ‘coffee bar’ was born in Piazza San marco. ‘

This is the embodiment of Venetian culture which has spread worldwide… Caffé del Doge was founded on this deep rooted history…”

Thanks Venice for having brought us coffee, and Caffé del Doge for still providing us with authentic Venetian roasted coffee beans, the first, one and only Coffee!

Scottish Coffee Festival 2015

After last year’s success we can’t wait for this year Scottish Coffee Festival.

Differently from last year it takes places in 3 dates and both in Glasgow and Edinburgh, starting from next Saturday 29th August at the Biscuit Factory in Leith. Just like last year it’s for a good cause, and it is packed with all the great things in life: not only coffee but also ice cream, pop corns and biscuits and more!

The most delicious Italian hot chocolate.

Our splendid Hot Chocolate machine

Proud to take part for the second year, we will offer free tasting of our Venitian coffee Caffe’ del Doge and our hot chocolate which was a major success last year.

Our coffee has an incomparable aroma due to the long and unique Venitian coffee story. Not many know that Venice has been the bridgehead between East and West for centuries, and the first Italian city to come to know coffee bean back in the 16th century. Considered a miraculous medicine it was sold for the first time in 1638 in Piazza San Marco at an exorbitant price. No surprise Italy is The Country of coffee of excellence, and Venitian coffee a particularly excellent example of it. Caffe’ del Doge is still roasted using the unique traditional Venitian Roasting method, which produces a perfect balance of aromas, with no bitter notes. We take great pride and care in promoting this specialty coffee in the UK.
